KIEV, October 8 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and NATO General-Secretary Jens Stoltenberg during a meeting on Wednesday discussed key priorities of the further cooperation, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
"During the meeting, the parties agreed on a timeline for political dialogue and key priorities of the practical cooperation in the fourth quarter of 2014 and the provisions of the Annual National Program NATO-Ukraine cooperation for 2015," the ministerial statement said.
The sides also discussed several projects aimed at boosting the capability of Ukraine’s armed forces, including NATO trust funds to improve Ukrainian military capabilities in areas such as logistics, command and control and cyber defense.
In early September, the Ukrainian government approved legislation to change the country's "non-bloc" status and begin efforts to join NATO. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that the country's goal is "to receive a special status between Ukraine and NATO."
On September 18, soon after a meeting with US President Barack Obama, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told journalists that his American counterpart "said no" to his plea for Ukraine's "special" security status outside the military bloc. A day earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that nobody, including the western states, would allow Ukraine to revoke its non-nuclear status.
