The heavy nuclear-guided missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy is one of the largest warships of its class in the world and is designed, predominantly, to carry out attacks and destroy an adversary's air carrier groups.

The Russian Northern Fleet has published a video of the cruiser Pyotr Velikiy firing missiles in the Barents Sea. The missiles fired are the P-700 Granit and the P-1000 Vulkan naval anti-ship cruise missiles.

Pyotr Velikiy was put into operation in 1998. The ship is equipped with the Granit missile system and the S-300F Fort air defence system and is designed to destroy enemy carrier formations.

The cruiser’s nuclear power system allows it to reach a speed of 32 knots (60 kilometres per hour) and is designed to operate for 50 years.
