Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has arrived in the Russian town of Akhtubinsk for an inspection of new weapons systems and aircraft as part of a series of defence meetings in May.

Putin is also set to hold a meeting on the socio-economic development of the Astrakhan region.

When approaching the town, a formation of six Su-57s escorted the president's plane. The cutting-edge fighters took off from an airfield at the Chkalov State Flight Test Centre to meet the head of state's aircraft.

During the landing, the president's jet was escorted by the Su-57s to starboard. A video of the flight was published on RIA Novosti's account on social media.
