Kalashnikov Group Set to Showcase Police E-Bikes at Army-2017 Expo

Russia's Kalashnikov group will demonstrate its electric motorcycles designed for police at the upcoming Army-2017 forum, the manufacturer said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the manufacturer, the electric motorcycles designed for the road patrol service will be supplied to the Moscow police in late August.

According to the statement, Moscow police officers are preparing to carry out full-scale tests of the bikes. Kalashnikov group said that the motorcycle's cruising range stands at 150 kilometers (93 miles).

"[T]hese are very interesting machines, absolutely environment-friendly. I think that in the future, when the motorcycle undergoes more in-depth tests during service, we will have the chance to work with Kalashnikov on this machine to perfect the motorcycle," Andrey Petrikov, a deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry's Moscow General Administration said after the first examination of the motorcycles.

Kalashnikov Concern was created in 2013 in a merger of two Soviet-era plants – Izhmash and Izhevsk Mechanical Plant – becoming Russia’s largest producer of rifles and other weaponry. The firm sells civilian firearms and combat weapons in over 25 countries, including in Europe, Africa and Asia.

On August 22-27, Russia will hold the Army-2017 exhibition to showcase its high-tech military innovation and achievements. The event is expected to gather a number of officials and military experts from dozens of countries. The forum will use several venues, including the military-themed Patriot Congress and Exhibition Center, Kubinka airfield and Alabino training ground in the Moscow region.
