WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US defense giant Lockheed Martin won over $86 million to manufacture long range anti-ship missiles for the Air Force, the US Department of Defense said in a press release.
"Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Orlando, Florida, has been awarded an $86,499,999 contract modification for long-range anti-ship missile (LRASM) Lot 1 production," the release said on Tuesday. "The contractor will provide 23 LRASM missiles."
The LRASM is uses next-generation guidance technology to track targets such as enemy ships, shallow submarines, drones, aircraft and land-based targets, according to published reports. It can be launched from a US Air Force B-1B bomber.
