An Israeli tank attacked positions of the Hamas movement in the southern Gaza Strip, responding to a projectile launched at Israel shortly before, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said on Monday.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) — "A short while ago, a projectile fired from the Gaza strip hit an open area in the Eshkol regional council. No injuries have been reported. In response, an IDF tank targeted a post belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the southern Gaza strip," IDF wrote on Twitter.

This comes less than 24 hours after another projectile was launched against Israel from the Gaza Strip and exploded mid-air.

The Gaza Strip, along with the Golan Heights, the West Bank and the Sinai Peninsula were seized by Israel as a result of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War in 1967.
