Boeing has received a $90 million for high energy laser pod research and development, according to the Pentagon.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Boeing has received a $90 million for high energy laser pod research and development, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

“The Boeing Company [of] St. Louis, Missouri, has been awarded an estimated $90 million… contract for laser pod research and development,” the release stated on Thursday. “Contractor will provide research and development of high energy laser technologies.”

Work on the contract will be performed at St. Louis in the US state of Missouri, and is expected to be completed by December 15, 2021.

The US Air Force hopes to begin testing laser weapons in 2021, Sputnik reported on Thursday.
