WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US federal buyers who approve needlessly expensive procurement agreements will be banned from working for defense contractors, President-elect Donald Trump said at a rally in Pennsylvania.

“We are going to impose a lifetime ban on people who give out these contracts,” Trump claimed on Thursday. “You work for the United States? You're not going to work for the people who [make] these planes.”

The government, Trump explained, must demand better equipment at far lower costs from defense contractors and penalize corrupt and incompetent officials who approved needless billions of dollars in cost overruns.

Trump also described the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Aircraft as a disaster because of out of control costs.
