About 300 airmen from the 158th Fighter Wing of the Vermont Air National Guard have been deployed to help maintain a fleet of F-16 fighter jets used to attack Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq, the US Central Command announced in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The deployment also includes an unspecified number of pilots who will fly strike missions, the release noted.

"The squadron will accompany coalition partners flying in support of OIR [Operation Inherent Resolve] at the deployed location, the release explained.

About 60 nations have joined the US-led coalition to fight Daesh, which is also known by the Arabic acronym Daesh and is outlawed in Russia and numerous other states.
