The South Korean Air Force has been granted a contract worth $1.2 billion to upgrade 134 F-16 combat aircraft, the US defense contractor Lockheed Martin announced in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The enhancements include an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar system, a high-resolution display and high-speed data bus, the release explained.

"These upgrades are a critical piece of South Korea’s national defense and highlight Lockheed Martin’s commitment to the full lifecycle of the F-16, from production to through-life sustainment," Lockheed’s F-16 Program Vice President Susan Ouzts said in the release.

The upgrade deal was a foreign military sales contract issued by the US Air Force to Lockheed Martin, the aircraft’s designer and manufacturer.
