The $4.3-billion arms program to equip the UK Army with lightly armored tanks has run into difficulties after doubts were raised about their usefulnessa.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The mini-tank, produced by General Dynamics, a US defense multinational, boasts a "revolutionary" weapons system which has experienced glitches, The Times reported on Tuesday.

The outlet cited a former defense official, who said there were also concerns that a light vehicle could become a death trap in a battle against a peer enemy.

The UK Defense Ministry reportedly awarded a contract to General Dynamics to deliver small Scout tanks in 2014. A total of 589 light tanks were projected to enter the UK Armored Cavalry in 2017-2020.
