WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Stryker upgrade includes the integration of a Kongsberg MCT-30mm weapon system with a remotely operated unmanned turret and hull modifications, the release said.
"Following the 2015 Russian invasion of Ukraine, US Army leaders in Europe identified a capability gap that threatened our forces in theater," Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Daniel Allyn stated in the release on Thursday. "The Russians, it turns out, had upgraded and fielded significant capabilities while we were engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Existing Stryker weaponry placed US forces at an unacceptable risk, Allyn added.
