YEKATERINBURG (Sputnik) — Russian mechanized infantry units have taken part in peace enforcement drills under the auspices of the United Nations, aide to the commander of the Central Military District Col. Yaroslav Roshchupkin said Thursday.
"Russian mechanized infantry peacekeeping units of the Central Military District during the military inspection following the results of the year 2016 have conducted an operation on peace enforcement under the UN auspices in the Samara Region," Roshchupkin said.
According to Roshchupkin, during the exercise the peacekeepers have successfully completed the task on confiscating arms, ammunition and extremist literature, and on establishment of humanitarian help stations.
Some 1,600 servicemen and 300 military equipment units have participated in the drills.
