WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The contract is expected to be completed by September 2018.
"Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Arizona, is being awarded a $28,056,574 modification to previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract to exercise an option for fiscal 2016 Navy Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) MK 49 Mod 3 guided missile launching system requirements," the release on Tuesday stated. "RAM is a missile system designed to provide anti-ship missile defense for multiple ship platforms."
Rolling Airframe Missiles are supersonic, lightweight weapons designed to destroy anti-ship missiles and engage multiple threats simultaneously.
Work under the contract will be performed in Germany and the US states of Kentucky, Arizona, Alabama, Oklahoma, California, Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio, the release added.
