The US 6th Fleet command ship Mount Whitney participated in a bilateral passing exercise PASSEX with a Romanian navy ship in the Black Sea, the US Navy said in a press release on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The PASSEX, conducted with Romanian navy corvette Admiral Eustatiu Sebastian F-264, included minesweeping and maneuvering exercises.

"The PASSEX was conducted in order improve maritime capabilities between the US and Romania and included a series of at-sea training evolutions," the release stated.

The Mount Whitney has been operating in the Black Sea since October 10.

The US 6th Fleet, based in Italy, conducts operations with allied, joint and interagency partners to advance US interests in Europe and Africa.
