“I welcome today's news that Syrian opposition forces liberated the Syrian town of Dabiq from ISIL [Daesh] control, aided by strong support from our ally Turkey and our international coalition,” Carter said on Saturday as quoted by the Defense Department’s statement.
On Saturday, Turkish armed forces said that the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army gained control over Dabiq, located 25 miles northeast of Aleppo.
Syria's civil war between government forces and a wide range of insurgents, including opposition groups and terrorists, such as the Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as the al-Nusra Front, or Jabhat al-Nusra), both outlawed in Russia, has raged for some five years and has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
