Navy officials are reporting that US sailor Seaman Danyelle Luckey died Monday after a brief illness while aboard the USS Ronald Reagan.

Task Force 70 spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Aaron Kakiel told Stars and Stripes that the cause of death for the personnel specialist is under investigation.

Capt. Michael Donnelly, commanding officer of the ship, based in Yokosuka, Japan, wrote in a post to the ship’s Facebook page, "Her loss comes as a tragic shock to her shipmates…For the crew, our thoughts and prayers are focused on her family during this time.”

Donnelly wrote that Luckey, a Pittsburgh, California, native, had only recently joined the ship while they were in port in Guam and, "quickly integrated as a vibrant part of the ship's Administrative Department."
