Canadian Warship, Recon Aircraft to Join North Atlantic WARRIOR Exercise

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Charlottetown and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CP-140 Aurora reconnaissance aircraft will train off the coast of Scotland in the North Atlantic alongside vessels and aircraft from several NATO and partner nations in exercise JOINT WARRIOR, the Canadian Department of National Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "HMCS Charlottetown will conduct naval exercises that focus on maritime interdiction and boarding operations, air defense, above surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, fast-attack-craft countermeasures, and air/maritime integration," HMCS Charlottetown Commanding Officer Andrew Hingston stated on Friday.

"Exercises like JOINT WARRIOR, which include both air and sea power, are essential to the training of today’s Royal Canadian Air Force and the RCAF’s CP-140 Aurora's ability to fly for long durations,” 14 Wing Greenwood Commander Colonel Pat Thauberger added.

Its communications suite and sensors make it versatile and adaptable to many roles on coastal, undersea, and overland surveillance missions, Thauberger noted.

JOINT WARRIOR is designed to improve interoperability and prepare forces for future combined exercises, the release noted.

Participation in JOINT WARRIOR enhances the readiness of the Canadian Armed Forces to undertake missions at the direction of the Government of Canada, the release said.
