Russia's Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering (OKBM Afrikantov) is showcasing its designs during Army-2016 international military and technical forum in the area of mobile power units with nuclear power modules aimed at assisting with the development of the Russian Arctic zone.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering (OKBM Afrikantov) is showcasing its mobile nuclear reactor designs for use in the Arctic at the ongoing Army-2016 international military and technical forum, the company said.

"OKBM Afrikantov is showcasing its designs in the area of mobile power units with nuclear power modules aimed at assisting with the development of the Russian Arctic zone," the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The company, which is part of the Rosatom state atomic energy corporation, is providing forum visitors information on its Aisberg subsea power complex, which is designed to supply power to drilling and extracting equipment, the statement said.

The Aisberg reactor is capable of running autonomously without maintenance for one year and has a total service life of 30 years.

The Afrikantov bureau is also showcasing its new-generation ABV-6E reactor, designed for small autonomous nuclear power sources, which has an output of 6-100 MW(e). The module can be used both on land and at sea and has a 10-year refueling span.

The Army-2016 forum, organized by the Russian Defense Ministry, kicked off on Tuesday and is due to last through Sunday. The forum is held in the military-themed Patriot Park in Kubinka near Moscow and in a number of locations in Russia's military districts.

OKBM Afrikantov, founded in 1945, works in designing, producing, testing and maintaining high-reliability reactor plants. Its products include navy ship reactors, fast neutron plants as well as small and medium floating power stations.
