Russia’s Eastern Military District missile formations performed combat training launches of the new Iskander-M tactical operational missile systems in the Jewish Autonomous Region, district spokesman Alxander Gordeev said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The missile successfully engaged its target in the Amur Region, including a simulated enemy’s command post, over the course of a 186-mile journey that began at the Jewish Autonomous Region’s training facility.

"Eastern Military District missile troops completed combat training launches from the Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile system within the bilateral command-and-staff exercises under the supervision of the Eastern Command chief Col. Gen. Sergei Surovkin," Gordeev said.

The launch allowed the motorized infantry to launch an offensive as part of the practical phase of the exercises in the Amur Region.

The Iskander-M (NATO reporting name SS-26 Stone) is a mobile ballistic missile system designed to destroy a wide variety of ground targets at a range of up to 310 miles.
