The US-led coalition against Daesh carried out 24 airstrikes against the terror group's positions in Syria and Iraq on Tuesday, the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting anti-Daesh airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since 2014. The airstrikes in Syria, however, are not authorized by the legitimate government of President Bashar Assad or by the UN Security Council.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 16 strikes using bomber, ground-attack, attack, and fighter aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets,” the release said on Wednesday. “Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq.”

In Syria, the airstrikes were launched near five towns of Abu Kamal, Dayr Az Zawr, Manbij, Mara, and Palmyra, and destroyed an DAesh oil wellhead, five fighting positions, two vehicles, a mortar system, two artillery systems, and a munitions cache, as well as an anti-air artillery system.

Meanwhile in Iraq, the airstrikes were waged near three locations, including Ramadi and Mosul, and destroyed 15 Daesh petroleum, oil and lubricant trucks, seven fighting positions, two assembly areas, 10 vehicle, two mortar systems, five heavy machine guns, and a tunnel.

Daesh is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries.
