North Korea has carried out more than 30 ballistic tests under the country's current leader Kim Jong Un, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Wednesday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, The South Korean military said that a missile presumed to be a Rodong was fired off the North Korean province of Hwanghae-Namdo.

"The launch of a ballistic missile in a bid to build up nuclear capacities is the next in line of will over 30 tests carried out after Kim Jong Un came to power," the JCS report said, as quoted by Yonhap agency.

According to the JCS, missile tests aim to demonstrate Pyongyang's ability to nuke South Korea as well as the neighboring countries.

The South Korean military estimated that Pyongyang has tested 16 Hwasong missiles with a range of 300-1,000 kilometers (186-621 miles), six Rodong missiles with a range of over 1,300 kilometers, six Musudan missiles with a range of 3,500-4,000 kilometers, as well as three submarine launched ballistic missiles since the end of 2011.
