Russia’s S-300 and S-400 air defense systems repelled a large-scale attack in exercises held in the Western Military District, district spokesman Igor Muginov said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Up to 300 troops and around 100 pieces of equipment, including 12 MiG-29SMT Fulcrum-E multirole fighters, took part in the exercise.

“The S-300 and S-400 Western Military District air defense system units stationed in the Leningrad and Moscow regions held joint exercises with the crew of the MiG-29SMT, acting as the simulated enemy, to repel a massive air strike on important military and civilian objects,” Muginov said.

The air defense and radio-technical troops jointly worked out the tasks of identifying the type and nature of their targets, as well as the probability of a hit at various altitudes and distances, Muginov specified. The fighter crew, he added, practiced overcoming the air defense systems and carrying out missile strikes on critical facilities.
