Russia is ready to consider resuming cooperation with NATO on issues including Afghanistan, flight security and counterterrorism, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov told Sputnik.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the deputy minister, "the only question today is how long NATO intends to ignore the objective, long overdue need to unite the resources and potential of all international players to counter real, rather than imaginary threats and challenges."

"We have confirmed repeatedly and on different levels our readiness to consider the possibility of resuming equal cooperation on these and other matters of mutual interest," Meshkov said.

According to the deputy minister, Moscow is still waiting for NATO to respond to proposals made by the Russian side on trust measures, including on developing the so-called Niinisto plan on Baltic air security.

"We are waiting for NATO's reaction, which will be a serious test of the alliance's true, rather than declared interest in de-escalating the tensions in Russia-NATO relations created by the bloc and some of its members' targeted actions," Meshkov said.
