Bulgarian Gov't Approves US-Bulgaria Anti-Drug, Counter-Terrorism Drills

Bulgarian government adopted a draft memorandum to hold a joint anti-drug and counter-terrorism exercise with the United States, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bulgarian government approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the US Naval Special Warfare Group 2 and the Bulgarian interior ministry on holding a joint anti-drug and counter-terrorism exercise, local media reported on Tuesday.

According to the Novinite, a draft memorandum of understanding was adopted during a government meeting earlier on Tuesday.

The aim of the Bulgarian-United States joint drill is to improve the Bulgarian interior ministry's effectiveness to handle the activities in the combat against narcotics and to respond to the terrorist threat.

According to the US State Department, Bulgaria's Black Sea ports are used by drug traffickers to smuggle cocaine from South America to Europe and heroin from Turkey and Iran to Europe.
