Russian enterprises within the Techmash group are working on the modernization of the helicopter mine dispensing system for the Mil Mi-8 and Mi-17, the group's general director, Sergey Rusakov, said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Research Institute of Engineering inaugurated new production facilities, which were put into operation within the framework of the federal defense industry 2020 development program.

"The mine [dispensing] system for the Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters is currently being upgraded," Rusakov said.

He added that the projects within a developed program also provide for the creation of new mine systems for other types of helicopters, which currently are configured to use cluster bombs.

The Techmash concern is Russia’s largest munitions manufacturer. It specializes in the development and production of weapon supplies for the Russian Armed Forces.
