Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy opined the Cold War was over and NATO does not seek to fight Russia.

ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday that NATO has no intention of fighting Russia and assuming this would be a strategic mistake.

"I want to say with certainty that we no longer live in the time of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, the Cold War is over. NATO has no goal of fighting Russia," Sarkozy said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"I think it's a strategic mistake to think so," he added.
