The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is ready to discuss the deployment of police mission in eastern Ukraine, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Kiev authorities launched a military operation against independence militias in eastern Ukraine in 2014. The confrontation has claimed over 9,000 lives, according to the UN estimates.

"There are some ideas for a police contingent, there are some others for ‘let’s give a weapon to the monitors… so I’m very open to discussion," Zannier told reporters on Monday.

In late April, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he expected the OSCE to deploy a police mission in Ukraine's Donbass region in the near future to control the ceasefire.

Following the statement, Zannier told Sputnik that an organization's armed mission cannot be sent to Ukraine without a full consensus by all the parties involved, including Russia.
