Lockheed Martin Resumes Production of Tactical Missile Systems
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A miniature interceptor missile that is engineered to destroy airborne artillery and mortar rounds as well as enemy drones on a battlefield has successfully completed a flight test, Lockheed Martin said in a press release.

"The launch demonstrated the agility and aerodynamic capability of the MHTK [Miniature Hit-to-Kill] missile, which is designed to defeat rocket, artillery and mortar targets at ranges greatly exceeding those of current and interim systems," the release said on Tuesday.

The release did not indicate whether the missile being demonstrated hit anything.

The interceptor is just over two-foot-long and weights about five pounds, compact enough so that multiple rounds can be packaged in a single mobile missile launch tube, the release explained.

The mini-interceptor program is intended to provide protection for soldiers on a battlefield from cruise missiles, drones, artillery and mortar fire, the release explains.

The interceptor destroys enemy targets through direct contact, according to the release.
