Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford said in written testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday that Russia’s increased military capability is a threat to US global interests.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian air campaign in Syria has demostrated the effectiveness of the work of the Russian military. He also added that the anti-terror operation is a better training than any combat drills.

On Monday, Putin ordered the withdrawal of the main part of the country's air forces from Syria, beginning Tuesday, noting that the objectives of Russia’s nearly 5.5-month operation against terrorist groups in the country had been met.

"The Russian military presents the greatest challenge to US interests. Russia is also the only actor aside from the United States that can project strategic power simultaneously in multiple regions," Dunfor stated.
