The Egyptian Armed Forces killed 12 fighters from the Daesh militant group during an anti-terror operation in the north of the country, local media reported Wednesday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — According to the broadcaster Al Arabiya, 12 Daesh militants were killed in the operation conducted in the northwestern Egyptian town of Rafah.

The broadcaster added that operations also held in the Egyptian cities of Arish and Sheikh Zuweid resulted in the arrest of 38 people on suspicion of Daesh membership.

Egypt has been conducting anti-terrorist operations in North Sinai for the last two years, particularly against Daesh-affiliated militant groups. Daesh is outlawed in a number of countries worldwide, including Russia and the United States.
