KHABAROVSK (Sputnik) – Over 1,500 troops with Russia’s Eastern Military District (EMD) reconnaissance forces launched exercises across seven Far East and Siberia regions, the EMD’s spokesman said Monday.

"A mass field march of the Naval Infantry, Motorized and Tank Brigades started as over 1,500 troops and around 100 combat and equipment pieces took part in tactical exercises across 13 of the District’s ranges," Alexander Gordeev told reporters.

The recon drills took place in the Republic of Buryatia, Zabaikalsky, Khabarovsk, Primorsky and Kamchatka Territories, as well as Amur and Sakhalin Regions, Gordeev specified.

"The district intelligence unit’s task it to detect and eliminate simulated sabotage and reconnaissance groups, to withdraw reconnaissance teams to the simulated enemy lines with a 6-mile quick march," he added.

Radiolocation stations and unmanned aerial vehicles were deployed in searching for saboteurs, the EMD spokesman stressed.
