    US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said that the United States is discussing with Saudi Arabia the deployment of ground troops in Syria, proposed by Riyadh.

    WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is discussing with Saudi Arabia the deployment of ground troops in Syria, proposed by Riyadh in order to fight the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh), US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said in a press briefing on Thursday.

    "As to the offer of ground troops [from Saudi Arabia], we’re still in discussion with that…I think we’re still in discussion with how those ground forces would be deployed on the ground," Toner explained.
