The United States can confirm that North Korea put a "satellite or some space device" into orbit, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, North Korea fired a long-range rocket, defying a UN Security Council resolution which bans Pyongyang from launching rockets that may be used as ballistic missiles carrying nuclear warheads.

"We've been able to determine that they were able to put a satellite or some space device into orbit," Cook told reporters.
