The US Army awarded Lockheed Martin a $31.8 million logistics contract for the Apache attack helicopter’s modernized targeting and piloting system, the US Department of Defense announced in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The contract through December 2016 includes four additional one-year options that would extend the agreement through December 2020, giving it a potential value of $424 million, the release said on Wednesday.

The Apache attack helicopter is sometimes likened to a flying tank, designed to survive heavy fire while zeroing in on targets day or night.

Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 1,350 modernized targeting systems to US Army and international customers.
