The Israeli military responded with artillery fire to the launch of missiles from the territory of neighboring Lebanon, the Israeli army's press service said Sunday.

TEL AVIV (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, three missiles hit northern Israel.

"IDF has responded with targeted artillery fire following the rockets that hit Israel earlier today from southern Lebanon," the IDF spokesperson wrote on Twitter.

The shelling comes after Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah group’s activist Samir Kantar has been killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike that targeted a residential building near the Syrian capital.
