TOKYO (Sputnik) — Canberra is looking for a contractor to build next-generation submarines to replace its aging Collins-class fleet. The contract is estimated at 50 billion Australian dollars ($36.11 billion at the current exchange rate).
Japan should submit final development plans before November 30 to continue competition with Germany and France that also wish to receive a contract with the Australian government, Kyodo news agency reported, citing government sources.
The agency added that the final decision on the country that would contribute to the renewal of Australian submarine fleet was expected in 2016.
