MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova — Earlier in the day, the Russian Su-24 bomber jet crashed in Syria. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the plane was shot by an air-to-air missile fired from a Turkish Air Force F-16 jet. Ankara claims it shot down the plane because it violated the country's airspace. The Russian Defense Ministry denies the accusations.
"It is still unclear if the Russian jet has crossed into the Turkish territory; however, it was clear that the Russian bomber jet didn’t have targets on the Turkish territory. All the NATO countries were advised that Russia is acting against terrorist groups on the Syrian territory," a Lega Nord party member, Claudio D'Amico said.
The leader of the Lega Nord, Matteo Salvini, said earlier in the day on his Facebook page that was "crazy" to down Su-24 military aircraft in Syria, as Russia is the only country that truly fights Islamic State militants, adding that Turkey should rather help Russia fight against ISIL.
Moscow said that the incident is likely to seriously undermine the Russia-Turkey relations. Russia's President Vladimir Putin described the incident as a "stab in the back" by the "accomplices of terrorists."
