Boeing has won a $281.7million US Air Force contract to upgrade (V)3 radar systems for some of its F-15 Eagle fighters, the US Department of Defense announced in a release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The contract is expected to be complete by January 15, 2019, according to the release.

"Contractor will provide procurement, installation, initial spares and support for 17 (V)3 and 29 RMP radars," the release, which was issued on Friday, stated.

The Defense Department explained that work on the program will be performed at Boeing‘s St. Louis, Missouri facilities.

The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter that first became operational in 1976 and is projected to be in service with the US Air Force through 2025.
