WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Components for Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, are now being produced in South Korea, their principal manufacturer Northrop Grumman said in a press release.

“During the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition, Northrop Grumman… and its supplier partners celebrated the first component parts manufactured in the Republic of Korea [South Korea] for the country's RQ-4 Global Hawk…UAS,” the release, issued on Thursday, stated.

The Global Hawk provides a broad overview and systematic intelligence of target areas by using high-resolution radar and long-range electro-optical and infrared sensors.

Manufacturing of the first South Korean Global Hawk is currently underway at Northrop Grumman's Moss Point, Mississippi facility, while final aircraft production will take place in Palmdale, California, the release noted.

Global Hawk supports military missions, anti-terrorism, anti-piracy, scientific and environmental work, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts anywhere in the world, Northrop Grumman added.
