Earlier on Tuesday, senior officials from the US Department of Defense and the Russian Ministry of Defense signed the MOU on safety in Syrian airspace.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and Russia will create a working group for discussions on issues related to implementing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Washington and Moscow on Tuesday, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook told reporters.

“The United States and Russia will form a working group to discuss any implementation issues that follow,” Cook said on Tuesday.

The memorandum on deconfliction of operations in the Syrian airspace signed by Washington and Moscow went into effect on Tuesday.

“The senior officials from the Department of Defense and the Russian Ministry of Defense signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the measures to minimize the risk of inflight incidents between coalition and Russian aircraft operating in Syrian airspace. With today’s signatures the MOU is now in effect,” Cook said on Tuesday.

The US-Russian document aimed at avoiding incidents in Syrian airspace is not made fully public, he added.
