The third video conference between the United States and Russia has helped to advance negotiations on deconfliction mechanisms for operations in Syria, US Defense Department spokesperson Jeff Davis said in a statement on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition and Russia are currently carrying out airstrikes against the Islamic State terrorists in Syria.

"Progress was made during the discussions, which were professional and focused narrowly on the implementation of specific safety procedures," the statement said.

On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had sent proposals on the text of a draft agreement to the Pentagon concerning flight safety during combat missions.

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter stated the same day that a US-Russia agreement on deconfliction would be concluded "shortly."

Earlier on Wednesday, US State Secretary John Kerry confirmed that Washington is ready to agree on terms of mechanisms to ensure the safety of US and Russian aircraft fighting terrorists.
