The US Navy will purchase $153 million in upgraded early warning and jamming defenses to counter emerging threats, defense contractor Lockheed Martin said in a statement on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers will receive upgrades to the AN/SLQ-32 system, which provides early warning and jamming capabilities.

“The US Navy awarded Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) a $154 million contract to upgrade the fleet’s electronic warfare defenses against evolving threats, such as anti-ship missiles.”

The system can also identify if enemy ships are tracking ships.

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland that is principally engaged in research, design, development, manufacture and sustainment of advanced technology systems and services.
