The United States has approved a possible $100 million military sale to Egypt of a mobile surveillance sensor system to protect the country’s porous border with Libya, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The system for the Egyptian Border Guard forces includes mobile surveillance towers, command and control systems, communications equipment and training, according to the statement.

“This mobile surveillance sensor security system will provide Egypt with advanced capabilities intended to bolster its border surveillance capabilities along its border with Libya and elsewhere,” DSCA said.

Egypt’s border forces lack the capability to remotely detect along unpatrolled areas of the porous border with conflict-ridden Libya.
