NATO Proves Its Aggressive Course in Europe – EU Parliamentarian

Washington uses NATO as a sentinel of its geopolitical interests in Europe. NATO continues its efforts to isolate Russia.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Budapest confirms the aggressive course of the alliance, Spanish European Parliament Member from the Confederal Group of the European United Left, Javier Couso Permuy told Sputnik.

"They follow the same aggressive line," Couso said, adding that in Europe NATO "substitutes the United States which concentrates on BRICS, especially China, and the Asia Pacific region."

Because of this, according to the parliamentarian, the United States tasks NATO and its member states with protecting its own geopolitical interests in Europe.

"All the rhetoric, not only at the meeting of the [NATO] defense ministers but also at the meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly was aimed at that end, and worse: they aggravate the belligerent atmosphere by creating tools and capabilities that go in that direction," Couso said.

According to the politician, the alliance also continues its efforts to isolate Russia.

"They violate the agreements made with the fall of the Soviet Union which should have led to Russia's integration into the European security scheme," Couso said.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly convened in the capital of Hungary May 15-18. The debate was primarily focused on the Ukraine crisis, Iran's nuclear energy program and recent increases in refugee inflow to Europe.
