US Contractor Wins Award to Supply UAE With $174Mln in Missiles

Lockheed Martin received a $174 million contract to produce tactical long-range surface-to-surface missiles, or ATACMS, for the US Army and the United Arab Emirates, the defense contractor announced in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The ATACMS is a precision guided surface-to-surface missile with a range of up to 188 miles. The missile is fired from a guided missile launch pod.

“ATACMS has unsurpassed surface-to-surface capability,”, of Lockheed Martin Tactical Missiles Vice President Ken Musculus said on Wednesday. “It is extremely reliable and proven in combat, which is why it continues to be our customers’ choice for long-range strike requirements.”

The United Arab Emirates is one of the world’s top five arms importers, largely weapons systems from the United States.
