The US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson has announced he would form a panel of experts to carry out a review of the White House safety.

WASHINGTON, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - The US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson has announced he would form a panel of experts to carry out a review of the White House safety.

The panel's findings are to be announced on December 15, Johnson said Wednesday.

The official explained that the panel's main focus would be on the White House grounds, but also noted the experts might provide recommendations regarding wider issues, such as potential for new directors for US Secret Service and bringing in new staff to the body.

Homeland Security Secretary has not specified the composition of the panel.

The announcement came after Secret Service Director Julia Pierson's resignation on Wednesday.

Pierson stepped down after US Army veteran Omar Gonzalez, armed with a knife, managed to enter the residence of the US President Barack Obama on September 19. The intruder reportedly climbed over the White House fence. The breach triggered an evacuation of parts of the White House. President Obama and his family were not in the residence at the moment of the incident.
