A command station for Russia’s Pantsir-S1 mobile air-defense weapon system has been demonstrated for the first time at the MAKS airshow near Moscow, the developer said Friday.

ZHUKOVSKY, August 30 (RIA Novosti) – A command station for Russia’s Pantsir-S1 mobile air-defense weapon system has been demonstrated for the first time at the MAKS airshow near Moscow, the developer said Friday.

The command station can simultaneously oversee coordination of up to six of the weapon systems, including when they are on the move, from up to 10 kilometers away, said Yury Nikitin, a representative of developer KBP.

The Pantsir is a combined gun-missile system featuring a wheeled vehicle mounting a fire-control radar and electro-optical sensor, two 30-mm cannons and up to 12 57E6 radio-command guided short-range missiles.

The air-defense system, designed to take on a variety of targets flying at low level, including cruise missiles and aircraft, can effectively engage targets at up to 20 kilometers.

The original system was demonstrated at the MAKS airshow in 1995, and a modified version was unveiled at MAKS-2007.
