U.S. inspection teams have conducted 12 inspections of Strategic Missile Forces facilities in Russia, SMF chief Lt. Gen. Sergei Karakayev said on Friday.
“Under the START III Treaty, Russia is entitled to 18 inspections on U.S. territory a year and use all national technical control systems at its disposal. The U.S. has the same rights,” he said.
“Since the START III Treaty entered into force [February 5, 2011] U.S. inspection teams have conducted 12 inspections at SMF installations.”
He did not say how many inspections Russian specialists had conducted on U.S. territory.
Signed in April by the presidents of Russia and the United States, the Treaty cuts both nations' nuclear arsenals to 1,550 nuclear warheads, down from the current 2,200.
