This comes as Israel confirmed that the Security Cabinet had voted unanimously to approve a ceasefire between Tel Aviv and Hamas on 20 May.

Fresh clashes between Palestinians and Israeli authorities took place at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on top of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on 21 May.

An Israeli police spokesperson has said Palestinians were throwing stones at officers, so the authorities had to begin "riot" suppressing measures. Law enforcement also reportedly used stun grenades, and tear gas to disperse crowds of Palestinians involved in the clashes.

Clashes began after Friday prayers at the mosque, according to the police.

The 20 May ceasefire halted 11 days of military hostilities between Israel and Hamas. The violence began after a decision by an Israeli court to evict several Palestinian families from their houses in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

NITED NATIONS (Sputnik) - The United Nations is very concerned about the continued clashes in East Jerusalem less than 24 hours after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire announcement, and calls on all parties to show restraint and avoid provocations, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Friday.

"We are obviously very concerned about the continuing tensions that we've seen today in occupied East Jerusalem, particularly in and around the Old City," Dujarric said during a press briefing. "It's very important that everyone honor the sanctity of the holy sites in the Old City, refrain from any provocation that could escalate tensions... show restraint."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Port workers in Italy's city of Ravenna have warned that they will not load weapons bound for Israel in order to not rekindle hostilities in the Gaza Strip, the ANSA news agency reported on Friday.

According to the media outlet, when the country's three biggest trade unions found out that a ship was en route to Italy to get containers with weapons before heading to Israel, dockers warned that they would go on strike and refuse to load "weapons, explosives or other materials of war that could fuel the conflict between Israel and Hamas."

On Thursday, Israel and the Hamas Islamist movement agreed to an Egypt-brokered ceasefire, after 11 days of rocket attacks and airstrikes that left 243 Palestinians and 12 Israelis dead.

GAZA CITY (Sputnik) - More than 30 Palestinians were injured in Friday's clashes with Israeli police in the West Bank and Jerusalem after an Egyptian-mediated ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was reached a day prior, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

Earlier in the day, clashes took place between Israeli law enforcement officers and Palestinians in various parts of the West Bank. In Jerusalem, Israeli police forces used stun grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse Palestinians who gathered near Al-Aqsa Mosque on top of the Temple Mount.

"Twenty Palestinians sustained injuries as a result of clashes with Israeli police near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and another 14 were injured in the West Bank," the PRCS said.

Israeli police spokesman Michael Zingerman told Sputnik that mass riots began on the Temple Mount right after Friday prayer, with stones being thrown at police. The police were ordered to "enter the Temple Mount to restore order and also to allow people not taking part in the riots to safely leave the Temple Mount," according to Zingerman.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police in East Jerusalem in early May spiraled into the worst violence in years between Hamas and Israel. Thousands of rockets were exchanged between Israel and Palestine's Gaza-based Hamas movement before an Egypt-brokered ceasefire was struck on Thursday night.

The 11-day hostilities killed 243 people in the Gaza Strip and 12 in Israel.
